From excavation to finished interior — a complete backyard storage shed built to last.
This custom shed build in St. George, Utah started with a Bobcat excavator and ended with a stucco-finished structure that matches the main house — complete with L-shaped interior shelving, a pitched tile roof, and a full-size entry door.
This project was a full shed build from the ground up — not a kit assembly. Viking Solutions handled every phase: site excavation, concrete pier footings, floor framing, wall framing, roof framing, OSB sheathing, tile roofing, stucco exterior finish, door and window installation, and interior shelving.
The finished structure matches the home's exterior — same stucco color, same dark tile roof, same black trim. It looks like it was always there.
A backyard with no dedicated storage — and Southern Utah soil that doesn't give up easily.
The homeowner needed a real storage structure — not a plastic shed from the hardware store. They wanted something that would hold up in the St. George heat, look like it belonged on the property, and give them organized, usable space for tools, equipment, and supplies.
The challenge was the site itself. The backyard had black gravel landscaping and rocky Utah soil underneath — the kind of ground that requires proper excavation and concrete pier footings before any framing can begin. Skipping that step would mean a structure that shifts and settles over time. Viking didn't skip it.
Three phases of construction — from bare ground to a finished structure.
Before any framing could begin, the site needed proper preparation. Viking brought in a Bobcat E20 mini excavator to remove the gravel and break through the rocky soil. Concrete pier tubes were set and filled to create a solid, level foundation. This is the work that homeowners never see — but it's what makes the structure last.

With the footings cured, the crew laid the pressure-treated floor frame directly on the piers. From there, wall framing went up quickly — all four walls, properly braced and squared. The open frame stage is where you can see the full footprint and get a sense of what the finished structure will look like.

The roof was framed with a slight pitch to match the main house's roofline and allow for proper drainage. OSB sheathing went on the walls and roof deck. At this stage, the structure is weathertight enough to start interior work while the exterior finishes are applied.

A structure that looks like it was designed with the house — not added as an afterthought.

L-shaped shelving on two walls gives the homeowner dedicated space for tools, supplies, and equipment — all off the floor and easy to access.
Concrete pier footings, pressure-treated framing, OSB sheathing, stucco exterior, and tile roofing. This structure is built for Southern Utah weather.
Same stucco color, same dark tile roof, same trim style. The shed looks like it was part of the original build — not an addition.
A few things worth knowing before starting a shed or small outbuilding project in Southern Utah.
In Southern Utah, the ground is rocky and unforgiving. Skipping proper excavation and concrete footings might save time upfront, but it leads to a structure that shifts, settles, and eventually fails. The work people never see is often the most important work on the job.
There's a significant difference between a kit shed and a stick-built structure. Stick-built means real framing, real sheathing, real roofing, and real footings. It costs more to do it right — but the result is a structure that holds its shape, handles the weather, and adds real value to the property.
A shed that looks like a shed is a shed. A shed that matches the home's stucco, roofline, and trim style becomes part of the property. That attention to detail is what separates a project that looks finished from one that looks added on.
A beautiful exterior doesn't help if the inside is just empty floor space. Planning the interior shelving layout before framing is complete means the structure can be built to support it properly — not retrofitted after the fact.
